In 2023, the Real Casa de la Moneda issued a 1-ounce gold coin showing another animal representative of Spain on the reverse, in this case the Caballo horse.  This horse breed is not one of its own, but a descendant of the pure Spanish horse and is considered the purest breed in existence with one of the oldest stud books in the world. The Caballo line originated in the monastery of La Cartuja in Jerez, which since 1484 and for at least three and a half centuries was the centre of breeding for an elite of Andalusian horses and housed one of the most famous and esteemed stud farms in the world. The obverse depicts the Spanish horse, while the reverse shows the royal crown and the historic pillars of Heracles, which are also depicted as dashes in the USD sign. A total of only 12,000 coins are offered for sale worldwide, which will certainly make this coin a collector's item in the future.
